I f you are travelling with the family Alicante is an ideal destination as there are lots of great things to do that the little ones will enjoy. In the centre you shouldn’t miss a stroll down Calle San Francisco. The so called ‘mushroom street’ is decorated with diverse sculptures for children to enjoy like huge toadstool mushrooms, giant insects and mini slides, all work of the bonfire festival artist José María Esquiva. It’s an area where children can entertain themselves in a safe environment while parents can enjoy the shops and variety of restaurants of the area.

Other great places to visit with the family are the city’s parks, like La Marjal in the area of San Juan beach, or El Palmeral in Alicante , one of the most spectacular parks of the city created as a forest of palm trees, ponds, lakes and artificial rivers. For the more adventurous, the Museo Volvo will be a tempting place to visit being the only museum in the world dedicated to one of the longest and most difficult competitions that exists: the Volvo Ocean Race . It’s free to enter and its modern structure and installations are full of interactive elements and games to enable you to get to know first-hand how the boats are constructed and what life is like on board for the intrepid crew.
