NATURE The Caldera de Taburiente National Park is ideal for hiking: volcanic landscapes, denseforests,beaches,naturalpoolsand an ideal climate with mild temperatures. The lush forests in the north contrast with the lunar landscapes in the south and there are numerous hiking routes for you to discover all its secrets. You really shouldn't miss the volcanoes route in the Cumbre Vieja Nature Reserve which has views of both sides of the island and a number of endemic animal species. The natural monument of the Teneguía volcanoes deserves a special visit. Ideal for hiking is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park , a rugged landscape criss-crossed by streams and waterfalls. There you'll find indigenous plant species like the Canary pine and the highest peaks on the island. La Palma has one of the most prestigious astronomical observatories in the world at Roque de los Muchachos , as well as a number of other extraordinary viewing points. The clear, protected night skies of La Palma provide unbeatable conditions for star gazing. You can do it yourself by booking a guided night tour or an observation session. The sea around La Palma won't let you down either: swim and dive in crystal- clear waters with black coral reefs and amazing seabeds. In the "Jardín de las Aves" , or Bird Garden, you'll see birds from the five continents flying around freely.
