En los alrededores se encuentra la iglesia de Sant Francesc —joya gótica con claustro donde reposan los restos del erudito mallorquín Ramon Llull—, los Baños Árabes, el Museo de Mallor- ca, el Parlamento de les Illes Balears y el Palacio March. Conviene perderse sin rumbo fijo por las calles estrechas y sombrías de esta zona de la ciudad, que obligan a levantar la vista para contemplar austeros pero imponentes palacios, edificados por la vieja nobleza y burguesía mallorquinas. Si algo singu- lariza a estos edificios son los patios, espacios interiores con trazos góticos o renacentistas, con escalinatas y ven- tanales, en los que todavía se respira un aire señorial. La cara marítima de la ciudad se puede recorrer a pie o en bicicleta por el largo passeig Marítim que conduce hasta los barrios marineros de es Molinar y es Portitxol. Frente al Real Club Náutico de Palma se alza la Llotja, edificio gótico convertido en sala de exposiciones, rodeado de una animada zona de bares y restaurantes.

The best idea is to wander aim- lessly through the narrow, shaded streets of this part of town, where you are forced to look upwards to contem- plate the austere yet imposing palaces constructed by Mallorca’s ancient nobles and bourgeoisie. One singular feature of these buildings are their patios, interior spaces with Gothic or Renaissance traits, flights of steps and large windows where one can still breathe in a stately atmosphere. The city’s seafront can be explored on foot or by bike down the long pas- seig Marítim promenade which leads to the seafaring districts of es Molinar and es Portitxol. Beside the Real Club Náutico de Palma yacht club stands La Llotja, a Gothic building which has been turned into an exhibition hall, surrounded by a lively district full of bars and restaurants.
