The Rioja Alta Wine Route is Rioja wine-producing area par excellence. It is here, that the region’s wine culture was mainly developed and where its most prestigious wines come from. Rioja Alavesa set in the southwestern provinces of the D.O. It contains some municipalities which still conserve the charm of the original medieval towns. Rioja Baja is located in the geographically arid southeast part, whose main core is Calahorra, and where youwill find some of the largest dinosaur prints in Europe.

The diversity and richness of the cultural and artistic heritage of this area is grandiose. From traces of prehistoric settlements, to imposing antique buildings rich in architecture from various artistic styles, revealing the different layers of civilization history. This is a land where the culture of wine is its reason for being.

WHY VISIT RIOJA D.O. WINE ROUTES? Rioja is an area privileged for wines and food; it is located in the north of Spain where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet. Rioja region is divided in three different provinces: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Outside of their fabulous wine, this region has millenarian castles and monasteries, archeological points like dolmens, dinosaur fossils and more.
