DEER RUT Another great spectacle provided by Spain'swildlife. At the end of September and the beginning of October you not only have the incredible explosion of autumn colours, in many parts of the country you can observe the mating ritual of the red deer.

The guttural sounds echoing round the valleys and forests are a sign that the mating season has arrived for this ma- jestic animal. The antlers which have grown during the spring and summer are now used in thrilling battles to establish dominance.
