A lcúdia, SantaMargalida y Muro son pueblos amantes de sus tradiciones que hasta la irrupción del turismo —hace apenas 50años— fueron eminentemente rurales, algoque todavía se aprecia en su paisaje interior y carácter local. Lugares cargados de histo- ria, con un valiosopatrimonio arquitectóni- co, cultural, gastronómico y festivo. Alcúdia. Los romanos eligieron Alcúdia para ubicar una de sus ciudades más importantes en Mallorca, Pollentia, urbe esplendorosa con gran vida social y cultural, como testimonian las excavacio- nes arqueológicas que muestran parte de la estructura de sus edificios y el museo que acoge los mejores hallazgos. El centro histórico de Alcúdia está todavía preservado por parte de la muralla medieval, en perfecto estado de conservación. El primer cinturón defen- sivo se construyó en el s. XIV, diseñado por el rey Jaume II, y tres siglos después se edificó el segundo, con un trazado de bastiones en forma de estrella que rodeaba el antiguo recinto, dejando entre ambos el camino de ronda, que puede recorrerse. Alcúdia, Santa Margalida and Muro are all villages which love their tradi- tions and were basically rural until tourism burst in on them – barely 50 years ago – and we can still catch a glimpse of this facet in their interior landscape and local character. They are places steeped in history, with a valuable architectural, cultural, gastro- nomical and festive heritage. Alcúdia. The Romans chose Alcú- dia as the site of one of their most im- portant towns on Mallorca, Pollentia , a brilliant metropolis with a great social and cultural life, as is demonstrated by the archaeological excavations which show part of the structure of their buildings, and the museum which houses the most important finds. The historic centre of Alcúdia is still preserved by part of the medieval wall, which is in a perfect state of conservation. The first defensive ring was built in the 14th century, designed by King Jaume II, and three centuries later the second one was built, with a star-shaped design of bastions which surrounded the first enclosure, leaving the sentry walk in between, which one
